Honoring a Hero: Helping Gretchen Evans Move into Her New Home

Imlach Group proudly helped U.S. Army hero Gretchen Evans move into her mortgage-free home, honoring her service and inspiring journey.

American hero and retired U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major Gretchen Evans has given more to our country than most of us could imagine. Her distinguished 27-year military career ended in 2006 after a mortar round detonation caused a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and left her completely deaf.

Her many honors include the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Presidential Unit Citation. In 2002 she was awarded the ESPY’s Pat Tillman Award along with induction into the Veteran’s Hall of Fame and the U.S. Army Women Veteran Hall of Fame.

Her career after the military has been just as inspiring. She is now a motivational speaker and is deeply involved in advocacy and service. She has held board positions and ambassador roles for organizations dedicated to improving accessibility and resources for Veterans. Her contributions include serving on the board of America’s VetDogs and acting as an ambassador for No Barriers and the Wounded Warrior Project. Additionally, she represents the Dogtopia Foundation, which focuses on providing service dogs for Veterans, supporting youth literacy programs, and creating employment opportunities for adults with autism. Through her advocacy, Evans has personally completed more than 30 marathons, donating all proceeds to charities that support Veterans.

In September 2025, Building Homes for Heroes gifted Command Sergeant Major Evans a mortgage-free home near Dallas, TX. Imlach Group was honored to help move her into this new chapter of life. Our Operations Manager, Grant Imlach, shared:

“Meeting Gretchen was unforgettable. Her strength and resilience are inspiring, and learning we’re neighbors in Northlake, Texas made this experience even more special.”
